National Park Trips

Kalimantan has great national parks for protecting its flora and fauna. These national parks are taking important part to preserve the ecology of the remain forests in this huge island. All of the national parks are important breeding of endemic species of flora and fauna where many scientists from all over the world come to do their  researches. There are some international organizations take part to support the programs of conversations involving the participation of the local people of course. The national parks are also opened for visitors to explore the unique and beautiful creatures of the parks. Thousands of local and foreign tourists come to see the endemic species of animals and vegetation in the island through the national parks.

 

TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK

Duration: 05 Days/04 Nights Grade: Easy

Day 01  ARRIVAL IN PANGKALAN BUN – TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK
Meet at airport and directly transfer to Kumai village for boarding the houseboat to Tanjung Puting National Park. The houseboat is a traditional wooden river boat with roof forms the upper deck where you can view the rainforest as it glides by. The boat crew including the boatman, cook and expert guide. In the peaceful afternoon, we will slowly explore the quite river by the houseboat while observing the primates along the riverside. Overnight on houseboat or Rimba Lodge with dining on the boat, with facilities; thin mattress, pillow, fine meals, bottled "mineral" water, mosquito net, kitchen, and simple toilet available on boat besides the familiar helpful guides and boatmen. Day 02  TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK After breakfast, we will board the houseboat for cruising upward the creek to Camp Leakey where the older orangutans are reintroduced into the rainforest. At this station, you will have opportunity to trek into the rainforest with your expert guide and forest rangers to appreciate the flora as well as viewing wild orangutans, gibbons, macaques, and birds. In the afternoon, we will visit the feeding station to see rehabilitated orangutans are given additional foods. We will then sail back down the river and overnight on houseboat or Rimba Lodge. Lunch and dinner will be served on houseboat. (B,L,D)
 
Day 03  TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK Get the morning river safari by houseboat to observe river ecology and wildlife along the riverside. En route, we will stop at Pondok Tanggui Feeding Station to watch rangers feed orangutans, and then we will continue our trip by visiting the Pesalat Station to explore reforestation activities and the famous iron wood as well as other exotic vegetation. Lunch will be served on boat while sighting wild animal activities along the riverside. Next, we will depart to Tanjung Harapan Feeding Station for viewing the feeding process of orangutans. Afterwards, we will proceed to Tanjung Harapan village for sightseeing villagers' daily activities. Enjoy the natural river view on the way back and overnight on houseboat or Rimba Lodge. Lunch and dinner will be served on houseboat. (B,L,D)
 
Day 04  TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK Exploring the National Park is never boring. We will observe deeper the swamp rainforest by trekking in other paths that may give you an opportunity to encounter the differences of orangutans either wild or ex-captive as well as other wildlife of the low land tropical rainforest with fascinating atmosphere of the nature itself. Enjoy the natural river view on the way back and overnight on houseboat or Rimba Lodge. Lunch and dinner will be served on houseboat. (B,L,D)
 
Day 05  TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK – DEPARTURE After breakfast, we will get the morning safari to explore wildlife on riverside. Afterwards, proceed to Kumai village to catch the car for driving to Pangkalan Bun airport for your next destination. (B)

KUTAI NATIONAL PARK

Day 01  ARRIVAL IN BALIKPAPAN – SAMARINDA

Day 02  SAMARINDA – KABO VILLAGE – KUTAI NATIONAL PARK After breakfast, we will be driving to Kabo village for cruise up to Mentoko by motorized canoe. In the peaceful afternoon, we will trek to the jungle for spotting wild orangutans and other wildlife. Mentoko is a site in Kutai National Park offers various trekking trails to explore wild orangutan and other animals, a Japanese scientist built a research camp to study for the orangutans here. In the peaceful evening, we can have a night safari trekking to explore tarantula, insects, birds, and other nocturnal wildlife. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on research camp or tent. (B,L,D)
 
Day 03  KUTAI NATIONAL PARK In the morning, we will be trekking in different trail of the jungle to observe orangutans, monkeys, birds, insects, etc. In the afternoon, we will cruise down the Mentoko River with hope to see estuary crocodile and probscis monkeys hang around on riverside. Afterwards, return to Mentoko for overnight on research camp or tent. (B,L,D)
 
Day 04  KUTAI NATIONAL PARK – SANTAN ULU – SAMARINDA After breakfast at the camp, we will cruise downward the Mentoko River back to Kabo village to catch our coach for driving to Santan Ulu village to observe the equatorial monument. Afterwards, transfer to Samarinda for overnight on hotel. Free at your own leisure. (B,L,D)
 
Day 05  SAMARINDA – DEPARTURE Breakfast at hotel and free at your own leisure till the proper time for transferring to airport for your next destination. (B)

KAYAN MENTARANG NATIONAL PARK

Duration: 07 Days/06 Nights Grade: Moderate

Day 01   ARRIVAL IN TARAKAN kalimantan jungle trekking is the way to explore the borneo rainforest and dayak lifeMeet at airport and directly transfer to hotel for check in. Next, proceed to mangrove forest to explore proboscis monkeys and birds as well as the species of mangroves. Afterwards, return to hotel for overnight.

Day 02 TARAKAN – MALINAU – SETULANG VILLAGE Breakfast at hotel then driving to the port for cruising upward the Kayan River to Malinau by public speed boat for about 3 hours of which the fresh water dolphins, proboscis monkeys, and birds emerge occasionally along the delta of Sesayap River. Next, proceed to Setulang village by car for overnight on local house. Afterwards, we will explore the unique culture of Dayak Kenyah people such as longhouse, cemetery, granaries, as well as the long ear women if we are lucky. (B,L,D)
Day 03 SETULANG VILLAGE – KAYAN MENTARANG NATIONAL PARK After breakfast at local house, we will cruise upward Setulang River for about 1 hour (depends on current). Next, we will be trekking to CIFOR tree with around 600 CM diameter crossing through tropical rainforest while spotting wild animals, such as: monkeys, hornbills, blue streak kingfishers, etc. Afterwards, we will trek downhill to the riverside for overnight on camp. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on bivouac/tent. (B,L,D)
Day 04 KAYAN MENTARANG NATIONAL PARK We will be trekking deeper in the pristine jungle for exploring wild flora and fauna of the national park. In the afternoon, we will set our campsite at riverside for dinner and overnight on bivouac/tent. (B,L,D)
Day 05 KAYAN MENTARANG NATIONAL PARK – SETULANG VILLAGE After breakfast, we will be trekking through river and primary forest to get our boat. In the afternoon, we will cross downward the river into the village for staying overnight on local house. (B,L,D)
Day 06 SETULANG VILLAGE – MALINAU – TARAKAN After breakfast at local house, we will drive to the port to catch the speed boat for cruising downward Sesayap River to Tarakan for overnight on hotel. (B,L,D)
Day 07 DEPARTURE Breakfast at hotel then transfer to airport for your flight to the next destination. (B)

Day 01  ARRIVAL IN PONTIANAK

Pontianak is the capital of West Kalimantan, located precisely on the equator and lies on the delta of Kapuas River, the longest river in Indonesia.
 
Day 02  PONTIANAK – KETAPANG – TELUK MELANO Free at your own leisure till the proper time for transferring to airport for flight to Ketapang. Arrive at Ketapang and directly drive to Teluk Melano for overnight on simple lodge. (B,L,D)
 
Day 03  TELUK MELANO – MOUNT PALUNG NATIONAL PARK After breakfast, we will cruise up the river to Mount Palung National Park through meandering river with beautiful scenery of the rainforest along the riverside. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on bivouac/tent. (B,L,D)
 
Day 04  MOUNT PALUNG NATIONAL PARK In the morning, we will be trekking into rainforest of the national park while enjoying fascinating flora and fauna along the track as well as sighting wild orangutan if we are lucky. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on bivouac/tent. (B,L,D)
 
Day 05  MOUNT PALUNG NATIONAL PARK – TELUK MELANO We will return to Teluk Melano with the same route. Next, take an afternoon boating excursion to Kampung Baru for exploring proboscis monkey along the trees at riverside. Afterwards, return to Teluk Melano for overnight on simple lodge. (B,L,D)
 
Day 06  TELUK MELANO – PONTIANAK After breakfast, we will return to Pontianak by express boat. Lunch and dinner will be served en route and overnight on hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 02  PONTIANAK – PUTUSSIBAU Free at your own leisure till the proper time for transferring to airport for flight to Putussibau. Arrive at Putussibau and directly transfer to local hotel. In the afternoon, you can explore the town and local market nearby the hotel. (B,L,D)
 
Day 03  PUTUSSIBAU – BETUNG KERIHUN NATIONAL PARK After breakfast at hotel, we will drive to the north to Mataso village crossing jungle and Dayak Iban villages with their longhouse. The road is relatively in good condition. Arrive in Mataso and wrapping our stuff with waterproof tarp and then cruising up the Embaloh river cross under the canopy while spotting wildlife such as monkeys, wild pigs, sambar deer, and birds on riverside. Afterwards, we will set our campsite on the riverside. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on bivouac/tent. (B,L,D)
 
Day 04  BETUNG KERIHUN NATIONAL PARK After breakfast, we will proceed to explore the Betung Kerihun National Park by trekking into the primary rainforest crossing rivers, hills and spotting wild animals that is occasionally hanging around the forest. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on bivouac/tent. (B,L,D)
 
Day 05  BETUNG KERIHUN NATIONAL PARK – DANAU SENTARUM NATIONAL PARK After breakfast, cruising downward the Embaloh River and directly transfer to Lanjak town by car then continue our trip by boat to Tekenang village on the area of Danau Sentarum National Park. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on the lodge. In late afternoon, we can climb the hill to view wonderful sunset of the lake from the highest point. (B,L,D)
 
Day 06  DANAU SENTARUM NATIONAL PARK – SINTANG In the morning, we will cruising the lake to explore wildlife, wetland, and fishermen livelihood. Next, we will cruise the lake into Kapuas River to Semitau village to catch our car for driving to Sintang town and check in to local hotel. Lunch and dinner will be served en route and overnight on hotel. (B,L,D)
 
Day 07  SINTANG – PONTIANAK After breakfast, we will depart to Pontianak by executive bus takes about 8 hours. Arrive in Pontianak and directly check in to hotel. (B,L,D)
